Day 7 - 15/07/25
Started my day nice and late at 10:30pm, after having a lovely 11 hour sleep to make up for all the restlessness of the previous nights. It was great to wake up in a room not surrounded by strangers! Now that it was day time, I could truly admire the fantastic view from my room on the 12th floor.
I enjoyed the massive shower and then went and got some plain toast with butter for breakfast so as not to disturb my stomach. I had to check out at 12, but the others weren’t back until 3, so I had a very depressing 3 hours back in the reality of the hostel waiting for the others to arrive.
Eventually they did, all wearing their ‘Ha Giang Loop Finisher’ t-shirts which made me very jealous! We didn’t have much time to talk as we had a 6.5 hour journey to Sapa at 4, so the others had a quick shower and got ready to leave.
If you’ve never been on a South East Asian long haul bus journey, I would not recommend it if you have heart conditions! Our bus driver seemed like he was pretending to be in Formula One: Vietnamese Bus Edition. He was constantly overtaking at corners, taking corners at full speed and beeping others. There were many times we had to close our eyes and hope we didn’t end up in a head on collision! Thankfully we were at the back of the bus, but he honestly seemed like he had no care if he lived or died.
Eventually we made it to Sapa in one piece, and arrived at our hotel. The bathroom was smelly and the room was damp, but it was a hell of a lot better than the hostel I was staying in! We decided to have an early night as we had a 12km trek across the mountains of Sapa the next day.
