Day 18 - 26/05/25
I was feeling a little worse for wear this morning, but I couldn’t stay home and relax as we had a Vietnam War tour that we had to catch a coach for! We arrived on a bus with about 15 other British tourists and these 3 very loud Americans who proceeded to natter very loudly for the entirety of the day.
We kept going, and he showed us the various gruesome booby traps that the Viet Cong set for the American soldiers. We started to realise that maybe the war wasn’t as fun as the movies made it out to be.
Although I’m not sure how anyone fell into this considering there was a fence around it! We stopped at a shooting range, which was absolutely deafening. We wanted to have a go shooting the AK47 but it was about £70 for 10 bullets! We decided to leave it and continued onto the next part, the tunnel exploration. As soon as I got down there, I became very claustrophobic so I didn’t take any photos as I was in fight or flight mode! Didn’t help that the guy in front of me kept stopping to take photos. I couldn’t even crouch and walk, I had to go on my hands and knees.
Thankfully we were only down there for about a minute before we got to an exit, so we managed to escape. We really understood now that there was not a chance in hell that the Vietnamese were losing this war when they were willing to spend all day in those boiling hot tunnels! Very sweaty from the tunnels and jungle walking, we stopped for some tea and a strange potato like thing.
After seeing a few more artefacts, we were back on the bus home. We had a look around this market for some nik naks but nothing took our fancy.
We decided to have dinner at the same Indian restaurant as the night before! Worryingly, as my journey home began the next day, I started to feel a bit queasy. I headed home, had a shower and watched a film with the boys which made me feel much better (I am all good as of my writing this!). After finishing a film, I headed to bed in preparation for my 2 day travel adventure back to the UK!
