Day 5&6, 13/06/25 to 14/06/25

Welcome back everyone! Sorry for the delay, but there was not too much to write about! After arriving in Ha Giang, I tried to fall asleep for about 4 hours but unfortunately I had a bad stomach ache and was sick a few times in the night. I hoped I’d feel better, but after waking up at 8am to start the Ha Giang loop I was even worse than before! I realised there was no chance I could sit on the back of a motorbike for the next 7 hours, so I agreed with the tour guide to set off the next day and catch the rest of the group up. I went back to bed and did very little for the rest of the day, eventually mustering up the energy to get a very depressing chips dinner from Mr Hung’s Pizza.

I went back to bed, ready to wake up for the Ha Giang loop at 8am the next morning, however I could not sleep for the life of me due to both jet lag and sickness. After about an hour of sleep total, I had to fully cancel my Ha Giang loop tour the next morning. Biggest waste of £130 ever! It was also around this time that I discovered the world’s biggest bug bite on my left arm. One good thing after another!
(It’s even redder at the time of writing)

Anyway, after spending yet another day in bed being sick, the illness combined with the loneliness, boredom and extreme tiredness led to a rather emotional phone call with Mum. Being the best, she booked me a night to stay at a hotel so I wouldn’t have to deal with everything in a dingy hostel! She also recommended I pick up some sleeping tablets - I felt very silly that I hadn’t thought of that before!

I tried to order a cab to the hotel, but for some reason nobody was arriving. A woman who owned the shop I was standing outside of asked why I was standing there and I told her I was waiting for a taxi. She said that her husband would give me a lift for a small fee so me, her husband and her son got in the car and made our way to the hotel! The hotel was absolutely incredible, all 3 of us looked gobsmacked when we saw how fancy it was.

The hotel room was even fancier, it felt so good to stretch out on a nice big bed and have my own room. I felt upbeat for the first time in days! As the sleeping tablets and the previous night’s hour of sleep took its effect on me, I gently fell asleep in the gigantic comfy bed, ready for my first good night’s sleep in days!
